A Pathway Through Anxiety

Learning how to keep your power in the midst of anxiety set you free. Anxiety is an emotion many of us give our power away to. Anxiety is fear. We oftentimes let fear control our choices, our responses to situations or in relationships. However, when you understand what anxiety is, why you feel it, and how you can release it from your body, you will be brought to a place of self-empowerment.


Anxiety doesn’t identify you. You can only identify with it by giving your power away to the feeling of anxiety. When you live your life tip toeing around your anxiety you give it permission to run your life. You are essentially giving your power away to anxiety. When I first realized this, it changed my life. I did not realize I was avoiding certain situations that would trigger my anxiety. Once I learned that if I just allow the emotion and breath and let go, it no longer had control over me. I could live my life more freely. I could do things and go places I was once avoiding.


Why do you feel anxiety?

The cells of the body oftentimes hold fear, which causes anxiety. It can be from past events, like trauma, that lock fear into the cells of the body. It's important to understand that when you feel anxious, fear is leaving the cells of your body. Allow your body to release the feeling. You can compare it to a volcano spitting out lava. The lava represents anxiety. Anxiety comes up from within the body (the cells) and is released, but you must breathe to release it. When you try to stop it, you push it back down into the body. The unknown oftentimes triggers anxiety.


One of the largest contributing factors to anxiousness is not knowing. The mind starts to feel anxious because it doesn’t know, or it doesn’t understand. Fear is an automatic response.  The minds "need to know," is overrated. Once you have understood fear is just a feeling leaving your body, it can no longer control you. You may call it ‘Mastering Your Emotions.’ You are no longer controlled by anxiety.


As you feel the anxiety, you must give yourself permission to allow it to leave. Remember, anxiety is leaving your body. It is not a new feeling. It is only coming up because it is releasing from you.


Fallow this step-by-step to help release anxiety from your body:

Give yourself permission to allow the feelings:


  1. Place the palms of your hands on your heart.

  2. Take a Conscious Breath (a breath in the mouth and out the mouth) and let go.

  3. Allow the feelings to arise and stay committed to the feeling of allowing, breathing, and letting go.

  4. Allow any uncomfortable physical sensations during this process and know that it is leaving your body.

  5. Keep breathing and letting go until you feel stable within your heart space.

 


This simple process is what I used to heal my panic attacks. Once I understood what was actually happening within my body, why I was feeling anxious, and how to release it from my body, I could allow this natural self-healing process to take place. It is important to understand what your body is doing. Understanding allows the healing to take place. Understanding gives you power.


Learning how to work with your anxiety can change your life. Once you have the knowledge, you can start to have more inner peace. Understanding something changes everything. Now that you have a deeper understanding of why anxiety happens and how to work with it, you will have more power for self-healing. Practice the steps above anytime you feel anxious. Remember to allow, breathe, and let go. Each time you do this, you carve a new path for yourself back to self-empowerment.
